What if on the Other Side of Discomfort is Peace?
Learning To Find Beauty Beyond Your Comfort Zone
For most of my life, I believed peace was something I found when everything was just right.
When the weather was beautiful.
When life felt calm.
When I had enough time.
When circumstances aligned.
But what if peace isn't something we find after discomfort disappears?
What if peace is something we discover by learning to be present within it?
Today, I love walking in the rain.
In fact, I surprisingly look forward to it.
But several months ago, that would have sounded impossible.
The Voice That Keeps Us Comfortable
I have a part of myself I lovingly call my Self Saboteur.
This isn't a part of me I try to fight or eliminate. Instead, I have learned to meet it with compassion.
Because underneath its resistance is a desire to protect me.
It is the voice that says:
"Stay comfortable."
"Don't take risks."
"Maybe tomorrow would be better."
"You're safe right where you are."
And honestly, that voice makes sense.
Our minds are designed to protect us. They naturally gravitate toward what is familiar because familiar feels safe.
But sometimes the very things that feel uncomfortable are the doorways to the experiences we are longing for.
A Commitment To Reconnect
I had been feeling a desire to become closer to the Divine in my everyday life.
Not just through moments of intentional prayer or meditation, but through my ordinary daily experiences.
I began asking myself:
Where do I naturally feel connected?
For me, the answer has always been nature.
Nature has a way of quieting the noise.
It reminds me to slow down.
To become present.
To notice.
To reconnect with something greater than myself.
So I made a commitment.
For 30 days, I would spend time outside every single day for at least 10 minutes.
No exceptions.
And this commitment started in January.
Which meant cold mornings.
Rain.
Fog.
Wind.
The kind of weather where staying inside with a warm cup of coffee sounds much more appealing.
Every morning, my Self Saboteur showed up.
"It's cold."
"You could skip today."
"You'll go later."
And every morning, I chose differently.
I put on my boots.
My coat.
My gloves.
My rain gear.
Whatever was needed.
And I stepped outside.
The Moment Everything Changed
What surprised me wasn't that I became better at tolerating the weather.
What surprised me was what happened once I was there.
No matter how much resistance I felt before stepping outside, something shifted the moment I became present.
I would feel a sense of peace wash over me.
A smile would appear on my face as I listened to the birds.
I would feel the grounding energy of the earth beneath my feet.
And many mornings, I felt the presence of my father.
Slowly appearing as a gentle tingling sensation, a heaviness to the energy on my left side.
It was through a deep sense of connection and remembrance.
A quiet knowing that love doesn't disappear simply because someone is no longer physically here.
A reminder that I am never truly alone.
That peace was never as far away as I thought.
It was only a few footsteps outside my door.
Learning To See What We Usually Miss
Something else began happening during those walks.
I started noticing things I had previously overlooked.
The way raindrops gathered on leaves.
The perfect circles created when drops landed in puddles.
The quiet stillness of the forest as animals sheltered from the rain.
The way everything seemed to slow down.
The very thing I once wanted to avoid became the doorway into deeper awareness.
I began learning that beauty isn't only found in perfect moments.
Beauty exists in the messy moments too.
The ordinary moments.
The uncomfortable moments.
The moments we usually rush past.
The Lesson That Left The Forest
Eventually, I realized this practice was never really about walking in the rain.
The rain was simply where I learned the lesson.
The lesson followed me everywhere.
It changed the way I approached challenges.
It expanded what I believed was possible.
It taught me that discomfort does not always mean something is wrong.
Sometimes discomfort is simply an invitation.
An invitation to slow down.
To listen.
To become more present.
To discover something new.
What Threshold Are You Standing At?
Sometimes the thing we are avoiding is the exact place where transformation is waiting.
The conversation we don't want to have.
The change we are afraid to make.
The practice we keep putting off.
The step outside of our comfort zone.
So I invite you to reflect:
What threshold have you been reluctant to cross?
What if the other side isn't fear?
What if the other side is peace?
What if the thing you have been avoiding is actually an invitation to reconnect with yourself, with nature, and with something greater?
Sometimes all it takes is one small step outside.
Keep Exploring—Together
The journey of reconnecting with ourselves is not something we have to walk alone.
While moments of reflection, time in nature, and quiet awareness can open us to deeper connection, there is something powerful about exploring alongside others who are also learning to slow down, listen, and notice what is often overlooked.
Inside our free community, we create space for meaningful conversations, guided practices, reflections, and opportunities to explore intuition, presence, and connection together.
It is a place to share experiences, ask questions, and discover new perspectives with others who are curious about the deeper layers of life.
You don’t need to have all the answers.
You don’t need to be an expert.
You only need a willingness to pause, notice, and take one small step beyond what feels familiar.
If you feel called to explore what becomes possible when we step outside our comfort zones and reconnect with the wisdom already within us, we would love to welcome you into our community.
No labels. No expectations. Just space to notice, reflect, and expand.
