I Hate When People Call Me Gifted…
Because this is something I developed.
Okay, maybe for a moment I do find a little ego boost in it.
Because when people validate this skill I've been working on, it makes it feel real, like it has some legitimacy to it. But then reality sets back in. Because I'm not one of those people who gets to say "oh, back in my childhood I could feel the connection" or "I just always had these knowings" or "I used to see my grandmother." That was never me. At least not that I can remember.
This is something I developed. And honestly? It hasn't even been that long.
How it started
Last fall I wrote a post on my social media about feeling so connected in nature. I'd been meditating for about 8 years by that point, and things had been happening in my meditations. Stuff I couldn't really explain. I used to just chalk it up to my brainwave state, like it was sending me into this deep calm, almost hallucinogenic kind of place. And look, I'm a nurse. I'm data driven. The esoteric, woo woo, intangible stuff was never really my thing.
But that same peaceful bliss I got in meditation, I started getting it out in nature too. So I wrote about it.
And an old coworker of mine, someone I hadn't talked to in over two decades, saw it and reached out. She said she was on a similar path and that we should chat. Funny enough, this woman used to be my mentor, way back when we were both doing interior design in 2005. And now here she was, about to become my mentor again, this time in the spiritual space.
She invited me to a mediumship course. Except it turned out to be way more than mediumship. We were practicing psychic connection, animal communication, all of it. And honestly, it was just so much fun.
The moment it clicked
Doing that course, I remember thinking, holy shit, I am actually capable of this. I never in a million years thought I had this in me. And here I was, connecting with people's loved ones who had passed, pulling out information that seemed to come from nowhere, and having it validated by another human being, right there in the moment.
This is exactly why I hate the word "gifted." I truly, deeply believe this is a skill anyone can develop. I think we were all born with it, honestly. And somewhere along the way, whether it was society, or our parents, or the religion we grew up in, or just life, we got steered away from it. Someone told us it wasn't possible, or that it was bad, or evil, or whatever story got handed to you.
But it's still in there. Relearning it is kind of like learning a new language.
Why validation matters
If I'd been on this journey by myself, I honestly don't know if I would have had the confidence to trust what I was getting. Because when you have an intuitive hit, or that little inner knowing, or a sign or a synchronicity from someone who's passed, or your higher power, or whatever you want to call it, your first instinct is to brush it off. "No, that can't be right, I’m just making this up."
Being around other people who were also developing this skill changed that for me. Having someone say, "yes girl, you totally connected with my grandmother, she gave me that opal pendant and my daughter has it now," that kind of validation is everything. It reminds you this isn't a fluke. It's something we're all capable of.
You won't always be right, and that's okay
If any of this is speaking to you, I just want to encourage you to try it. You're learning a new language, and like with any language, some of it is going to get lost in translation sometimes. My mentor always says our brain is filtering this information, trying to help us decipher what's coming through using very human hardware. So yeah, sometimes it gets a little garbled.
But then there are the moments where you get a hit so clear, so specific, that you can't deny it. I can't even tell you how many times I left my Zoom class, walked straight over to my husband, and said, "holy shit, I'm actually doing this. It's working."
Where I'm at now
Since that course, I've become genuinely obsessed with this work, in the best way. And like any skill, it ebbs and flows. Some weeks I'm all in, really leaning into developing it. Other weeks life happens and it falls to the wayside, and I start to feel that disconnect creep back in.
But here's what I want you to really sit with: I never felt like I had this connection. I built it, over about a year, to the point where I'm now doing readings with people. Real ones, where what I'm getting genuinely resonates. I'm connecting with loved ones who've passed. I'm connecting with animals. I’m connection with people’s higher power… And honestly, it still amazes me every single time.
If you're curious
We have a free community where you can try this out on your own time. You go in, watch a short video, pause it, tune in, and just see what comes through.
If you want a little more structure, there's a self paced intuition course you can work through whenever works for you.
And if you're ready to practice alongside other people, which, if this post told you anything, is where the real magic happens, we host monthly circles where you can do exactly that.
If you made it this far, I hope this was a little nudge. I hope it's the sign you've been waiting for. I hope it's the moment you finally let yourself test out the skill I believe every single one of us was born with.
Come curious. Leave the certainty at the door. Let's find out what you already know.
